This site provides some background information on the history of Clairac in the 17th and 18th century. Until 1685 almost the entire population of Clairac (4000 inhabitants) was Protestant. Following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes (November 1685) hundreds of people left Clairac and France.
In the weekend of 21-23 July 2017, descendants of the Dutilh family visited Clairac to reconnect with their roots. At that occasion, a memory plaque has been unveiled which is mounted on the house where Abel Dutilh (1664-1744) lived in 1699.
Abel was at the time treasurer of the Protestant church, and he hosted the consistory in his house at the Rue du Temple which is now 38 Rue Gambetta.
